Fort Hood TX Real Estate (254) 200-0044
Fort Hood Real Estate and Killeen SchoolsI recently moved to the Killeen, Fort Hood community. Most of my adult life was spent in the beautiful State of Washington. My life took some unexpected turns recently and I decided on a change of scenery. That is a whole other story. Suffice it to say, I ended up in Central Texas, specifically in the City of Killeen. When I left Washington, I had sold my home and had vowed that I would never own another home. Renting seemed the way to go. When I got to Killeen, I found that the cost of real estate was ridiculously low compared to the home prices in Washington State. Some reputable sources have listed Killeen as the most affordable housing market in the country. I reversed course and decided that I would try home ownership again. My relatives in Killeen, part of the other story, recommended I talk to Realtor Patrick Maxam who was working out of the Harker Heights office of RE/MAX Platinum. They had purchased four homes from him in the recent past. I've been lucky to have dealt with wonderful real estate agents in the past, but Patrick has proven himself to be the best. I proved to be a picky client but Patrick stuck with me and eventually we located the perfect home for me. In the process we have become good friends. Now about the schools. Being an older, semi retired guy, I needed something to keep me busy. I had always wanted to try my hand at teaching. So I started work as a substitute teacher with the Killen Independent School District. The Killen School district is the largest between Austin and Dallas with an enrollment of over 38,000 students in the 2007/2008 school year. The district employs some 5,800 plus teachers and serves a population of approximately 150,000. The district serves the communities of Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville and the largest military base in the nation, Fort Hood. Where ever you live in the area, you will be close to one of the district’s 30 elementary schools of which seven are actually located on Fort hood, eleven middle schools, two on Fort Hood. Four high schools and the five special campuses which serve special needs students of every stripe. As a substitute teacher, I have had a unique insight into the districts workings. In just 3 months I have had the pleasure to serve in 15 different schools, working with pre kindergarten to 8 graders. Maybe next year I will be braver and tackle a high school. I know that when parents are looking at real estate, the proximity to quality education for their children is a primary consideration. My experience as an old guy substitute teacher has been that the Killeen School District strives to provide the best education possible under any circumstance. I have worked as a resource aide, primary teacher, in at risk classrooms, in special needs, in a detention school setting. In every case, I found the staff to be caring and concerned. The school structures appear to be very recently constructed. The district has had to keep pace with one of the fastest growing communities in the nation. I am no longer of the rug rat persuasion, however if I were, I would be confident that the Killeen Independent School District would take very good care of them. John J.
